Recently, the new national standard-GB/T 9943-2025 "High-Speed Tool Steel"-jointly issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China, has been officially implemented. This standard serves as an authoritative technical document guiding the production, inspection, and application of high-speed tool steel in China. Its update holds significant importance for promoting quality improvement and technological advancement in China's high-end manufacturing sector.

Technology Leadership, Defining New Industry Norms

The GB/T 9943-2025 standard replaces the previous GB/T 9943-2008 "High-Speed Tool Steel," GB/T 9941-2009 "High-Speed Tool Steel Plates," and GB/T 36708-2018 "Pre-Hardened High-Speed Tool Steel." The new standard adopts a grade designation method aligned with international norms and introduces more scientific and stringent requirements for key technical indicators such as chemical composition, mechanical properties, non-metallic inclusions, and macrostructure. It aims to comprehensively enhance the quality stability and consistency of high-speed steel products in China, meeting the demanding requirements of modern precision tools, high-end CNC cutting tools, aerospace, and other cutting-edge fields.

Wide Applicability and Strong Guidance

As clearly specified in the standard, it applies to:

Hot-rolled and forged high-speed steel bars (round steel, square steel, flat steel, etc.) with nominal dimensions not exceeding 350mm;

High-speed steel wire rods and wires;

Silver bright steel bars;

Cold-rolled steel plates with nominal thickness not exceeding 4mm and hot-rolled steel plates with nominal thickness not exceeding 15mm;

Pre-hardened high-speed steel bars with a nominal diameter of 1.0mm–15.0mm and surface finish as polished or cold-drawn.

At the same time, its chemical composition requirements also apply to steel ingots and billets. This clear delineation provides authoritative guidance for production, acceptance, and quality control across the entire industry chain.
